The Story behind the App:

While filming for the BBC's Private Life of Plants, I had a friend visit my garden. She admired its beauty and asked how I knew which plants would thrive in different conditions, ensuring a stunning and colorful garden year-round. She mentioned having a tree but not knowing what to plant underneath it, as well as wanting climbing plants for her garage but not knowing which ones to choose. She expressed frustration with traditional books that often lacked the desired information and were time-consuming to search through.

This encounter sparked the idea for an interactive and user-friendly plant database. I wanted it to be accessible for people of all levels of experience, helping them find the perfect plants to suit their specific garden conditions and create continuous color and interest throughout the year. While I could provide the photographs, I needed authors with hands-on gardening experience who could write detailed descriptions instead of just basic information found on plant labels.

The next step was finding skilled programmers to bring the plant database to life, and it has been growing ever since.
